    their origin This is due in part to the pioneering work which De Martino have done in terms of finding new places for the cultivation of grapes breaking new ground in the Choapa Valley the high altitude Elqui Valley and old bush vines from the south of Chile Head winemaker at De Martino Marcelo Retamal sees this recognition as justification for the decision to do something different with the style of their wines We decided to create wines for gastronomy that represent their origin that are ideally organic and produced using sustainable practices while being refreshing with moderate alcohol content absent of wooden undertones which cloud their identity and produced as naturally as possible In today s world dominated by wood artificial yeasts and late harvests of overly ripe fruit which standardize the winemaking process we think that working towards the production of unique and distinctive wines is the way forward and I think that this is exactly what has been recognized by the magazine General Manager of the vineyard Pietro De Martino attributes the accolade to the exhaustive work done over the last few years to produce excellent quality wines from Chile s best wine producing valleys and by doing so faithfully representing the potential that this country holds to create unique wines of great character This project also gave rise to De Martino s initiative to produce wines naturally looking back to its origins and early production techniques such as the use of more than 100 year old clay amphoras for storage and the production of the Cinsault variety About Decanter Magazine Decanter is considered one of the leading wine magazines in the world It is read in 98 countries and recommends more than 4 000 wines each year In this special edition devoted to Chilean and Argentine
